This is a lovely book, about friendships and what is important in life. Francis goes to sit out away from the other pupils at the top of a field, when a young girl comes and sits beside him. She is wearing a black and white striped dress, with no coat. It was cold enough for Francis to know that the freezing weather would keep most people in doors, so he had believed he would be alone. She, though doesn’t seem to feel the cold at all and is rather startled when he speaks to her. It is the start of a very strange friendship and the beginning of some rather surprising changes for both of them…

The book is a small hardback – just a little shorter and wider than the usual octavo (some 180 x 140 mm) with a dust jacket.
